A214 Pages

From February to October 2006 I did an Open University music course called Understanding Music: Elements, Techniques and Styles. It was a lot of work but very interesting. In these pages I have provided some of my revision notes, both for my own benefit (at the time of writing I have not finished the course), and maybe someone else may even get some use out of them.

Other A214 Pages

Some other people have put A214 (and relevant music theory) stuff on the web. Here are a few that I have found useful:

  • Sarah's Kinda Helpful Web Site is full of, well, 'kinda helpful' stuff. Probably the best one out there.
  • Gary Ewer sells some sort of course, but he's got plenty of stuff on his site that you can look at for free
  • Tom Pankhurst's TonalityGuide is a great resource for tonal music and chord progressions
  • Austin College has lots of music theory pages online, with sound and everything
  • Denomo is a graphical music editor. The link will take you to some useful pages on its web site about notation rules (for the application itself, go here.
